Humphead Wrasse master class workshop

£295.00

I am really excited to be bringing you this humphead wrasse online workshop starting February 15th 2026.

This is a particularly exciting project and the first time I will be teaching a fish. At first glance, it may look like an ungainly blue creature, but when you study it closely, the details are extraordinary. Its body reveals patterns even within the scales, and the colour range is remarkable, shifting from deep blue through green, teal, yellow, turquoise, lime, orange, pink, and purple. Some of the markings resemble fabric designs or even aboriginal artwork, while the undulating contours of the body provide wonderful opportunities to explore light and shadow with fabric and thread. And those stunning concertinaed fins and tail that remind me of Issey Miyake pleated skirts!

This is a fascinating and technical piece, allowing you to work on smooth, shiny, possibly reflective surfaces, while also mastering neat, stylised patterns. A project full of colour, texture, and intricate detail.

Here is some information on how it works:

  • Lifetime access

  • Step-by-step guides on how to create the fish textile embroidered art, from creating your background canvas all the way through to framing it

  • Runs from a private Facebook group

  • Live meet Q&A sessions every Saturday/Sunday for the first 5 weeks then extra lives and zooms as and when students request.

  • Sophie will check the group for posts and comments every day for the first month, then once a week.

  • You’ll receive a detailed list of requirements, tools and the images needed.

  • No kit necessary – use your own fabric stash for the appliqué, and I’ll send you the links and information on the correct canvas to buy

  • Bonus Zoom meets.
